Advantages of Learnership Programs
Incentives that are work-based and help those who have enrolled to get NQF qualifications are referred to as learnership programs. Those people with disabilities in South Africa are the ones who mostly get to enroll for these programs. Hairdressing, project management as well as engineering are some of the occupations that people are taught on these programs. These programs were introduced by the government in order to help the disabled to gain skills and workplace experience which will help them get great employment opportunities. Those who participate in these programs get the right education access and training as they get to study while working on their careers. Learnership programs were mainly started in order to fill the existing gap between the education system and training required in order for learners to fulfill the needs of the labor market.

There are three parties involved in this program which include the learner, the training provider in charge of theoretical work and the employer who offers the training and is in charge of practical work. Those who have completed their college education can enroll for these programs. In order to be eligible for the program, one has to be above the age of 16 and below 35 years.
The only way those who are unemployed can participate in the program is if there is a willing employer in the field willing to provide working and training experience. When enrolling for the program, the learner is given a contract which is legally binding to them, the employer as well as the trainer. During the duration of the program, one is required to be under their employer which is one of the terms and conditions given. As soon as one has completed it, the employer decides on whether the learner will continue working for them or not.

By enrolling in such a program, one gets plenty of benefits such as an improvement on one’s job performance, better employment opportunities and an employment contract that is fixed term during the duration of the program. Another benefit of such a training program is that one has access to allowances during the training period.
The training period is inclusive of practical tasks, assignments, projects and other tasks that one is required to handle. The learner’s classroom or workplace is usually the venue for assessing their skills.
